The way I got introduced to the COMPUTER
Let me tell u all abt my first exposure to the computer…..
After completing my 10th standard I took physics chemistry and biology as my major…and in my school non computer students will not be allowed inside the computer lab… so I did not get the chance of touching the computer till my 11th standard half yearly exam… during my half yearly leave my dad decided to buy a computer for himself so that he can maintain his patients records in a in pakka manner…. Even at that time I was absolutely clueless on what we can do with a computer…. And one Thursday afternoon my dad told that today evening some persons from “Lotus Computers” will come and install computer in our house… the clock ticked 5.00 I was eagerly waiting outside my house… by 6.30 a grey colored maruthi 800 car came… one guy got down from the car and asked “is this the residence of Rajarathinam”… I told s… he introduced himself and his colleague and came in… they asked me the place where the computer must be placed…. I directed them to my dad’s room… then those 2 guys brought 4 to 5 cardboard boxes from the car… and both of them spoke in a jargon which I did not understand… they unpacked all the boxes and was doing some thing with lots of wires… and after a period of time they took a pair of speakers from a box… I was absolutely clueless abt what they are going to do with the speakers… finally they plugged all the wires in the cpu… me and my mother were watching all these thing curiously from the entrance of the room… after some 20mts of setup, one guy turned to our side and asked who knew to operate the computer… I told that my dad only knows to operate the computer… I asked him to teach me how to operate it…. He said “hmmm” … now he connected the main plug to the power supply and switched it on…
I heard a beep sound from the UPS… he asked me to keep the supply on for 8 hours so that the UPS battery gets charged up… and he booted the comp… I was surprised to hear sound from the computer speakers when windows started… at that time only, I came to know that we can connect speakers to a computer… :) … then he was demonstrating me how to play a song using winamp… I saw an arrow moving in the screen when he did some thing with the mouse… and the mouse pad which he gave us had a picture of a floppy disc and to my eyes the mouse pad appeared like an hi-tech device…. (in my school I have seen 12th standard boys using only the keyboard and not the mouse)… suddenly a window opened when he did something and that window had play, pause, fast forward and other buttons (like my music system)… after doing something he clicked on the play button and I heard the song “jeeva” from the movie “jodi”… (now I came to know that songs can be played in a comp)… then he closed that window and asked me to do what he did… he got up and gave me the seat… I placed my hands over the mouse and was staying calm for about 30 seconds… then that guy told me that if I move the mouse the arrow in the screen will move (So sad of me) this is how I got introduced to the computer…. And at the end of the day, the only thing which I knew about computer was that “I must click START and then click SHUT DOWN and then Click OK to turn off the Computer” (He told that if this process is not carried out to switch off the comp then the comp will die)
And now (after 6 years from my 11th standard)… I am working as a Software Engineer in an MNC
U cant predict ur future… but patience and perseverance are the needs of the hour :)

On reading this blog, i could remember my comp prof's verdict...He said 'Learning computers is like eating icecreams. Dont you think its weird to spend ample time to learn how to eat an ice cream'
Prof's are genius...absent minded at times though :))

Good one..
I also faced a similar situation in my life... absolutely i had no idea what are the components that a standard comp would have.. i learnt only after entering college.. as i was in biology stream my friends who are comp sci group would discuss abt their question paper... it would be greek and latin for me.. but when i think now i would laugh at myself and the vetti scene put up by those guys.. They would be discussing abt worlds toughest language VB..:-)
thank u all for ur comments and motivation :)
